Pat Sandos Appointed Superintendent

At a special meeting Tuesday, the Sheridan Board of Education appointed Pat Sandos as the district’s next superintendent.

Sandos, who is currently the district’s Executive Director of School Services and Student Behavioral and Emotional Supports, will succeed Michael Clough beginning July 1. Clough is retiring after ten years at the helm.

The vote to appoint Sandos was 3 to 2 with board members Karla Najera and Daniel Stange opposed. The decision ended a search process that began early in 2018 and uncovered some 80 candidates. Seven potential finalists were interviewed in March before three finalists were named in early April.

“Without question, Sheridan has made major strides of late—but we all know there is plenty of work ahead,” said Sandos. “I appreciate being given the opportunity to lead a school district that serves one of Metro Denver’s finest communities. The process brought some strong opinions to the table and I certainly hope we can tap that passionate support for Sheridan students and turn it into positive momentum that benefits the entire district. Our work will be guided by the belief that all children can achieve at high levels and leave Sheridan Schools with tremendous college and career options at their fingertips.”

Pat Sandos has spent almost his entire career of 30 years in the west Denver area as a teacher, principal, and administrator. Before coming to Sheridan in 2016, Pat served as a principal in Denver and Jefferson County where he demonstrated excellence in leadership and facilitated academic growth and established strong school cultures. Pat has served as the President of the Colorado Association of Secondary School Principals and has lobbied on behalf of public education at both the state level and in Washington, D.C.

Board president Bernadette Saleh was joined in voting to approve the appointment of Sandos by board members Sally Daigle and Juanita Camacho. Saleh thanked all three finalists and complimented each of them for the unique talents and experiences they brought in their applications. Saleh also thanked the finalists for their patience.

“We all want changes, we all want solutions,” she said. “We are here because we want to be. We are all about solutions … If you aren’t part of the solution, you become part of the problem. We are here for our children, for the 1,400 children who show up every day for an education.”
