Mural Unveiling Tuesday, April 17 at Sheridan
City Hall; Fort Logan Northgate Student Project Is Led by Poet Adrian Molina
and Muralist Tony Ortega
Fort Logan Northgate School invites the community to
attend the unveiling of a major student mural created through a collaborative
art project, “Our Voice, Our Culture, Our Community, Our Future.”
The unveiling will take place on Tuesday, April 17 at
1:30 p.m. at the Sheridan City Hall, 4101 S. Federal Blvd. Students and
teachers will attend the unveiling along with the two artists, poet Adrian
Molina and muralist Tony Ortega, who led the months-long process.
The mural began with Humanities and Advanced Art students
developing spoken word poems to reflect their personal experiences. Those poems
were used to inspire a visual representation of the culture and community of
Fort Logan Northgate School on a four panel mural. The focus of the project was
to help students understand their own power and impact in the community and the
many different outlets that they have for expression through art.
Two of the panels will be displayed at the Sheridan City
Hall through the month of May. Ultimately, the entire panel will be installed
at Fort Logan Northgate School.
The project, which will include both spoken word and a
large mural, is possible thanks to a grant from Think 360 Arts for Learning, an
organization promotes collaboration among artists, educators, communities, and
other organizations; Colorado Creative Industries; and SCFD (Scientific &
Cultural Facilities District), Arapahoe County.

Revelación del Mural en el Ayuntamiento de
Sheridan el Martes 17 de Abril; el Proyecto de los Estudiantes de Fort Logan
Northgate fue Dirigido por el Poeta Adrian Molina y el Muralista Tony Ortega
La Escuela Fort Logan Northgate invita a la comunidad a
asistir a la revelación del gran mural estudiantil creado a través de un
proyecto de arte colaborativo, “Nuestra Voz, Nuestra Cultura, Nuestra
Comunidad, Nuestro Futuro”.
La revelación tomará lugar el Martes 17 de Abril a la
1:30 p.m. en el Ayuntamiento de Sheridan, 4101 S. Federal Blvd. Los estudiantes
y maestros asistirán al evento junto con los dos artistas, el poeta Adrian
Molina y el muralista Tony Ortega, quienes lideraron el proceso de meses.
El mural comenzó con estudiantes de Humanidades y Arte
Avanzado desarrollando poemas hablados para reflexionar sobre sus propias
experiencias. Esos poemas fueron usados para inspirar una representación visual
de la cultura y la comunidad de la Escuela Fort Logan Northgate en un mural de
cuatro paneles. El enfoque del proyecto fue ayudar a los estudiantes a entender
su propio poder e impacto en la comunidad y las muchas diferentes formas que
tienen para expresarse a través del arte.
Dos de los paneles serán expuestos en el Ayuntamiento de
Sheridan todo el mes de Mayo. Por último, todo el panel se instalará en la
escuela Fort Logan Northgate.
El proyecto, el cual incluye tanto la palabra hablada
como un gran mural, fue posible gracias a la subvención de “Think 360 Arts for
Learning”, una organización que promueve la colaboración entre artistas,
educadores, comunidades y otras organizaciones; Industrias Creativas de
Colorado y SCFD (Distrito de Facultades Científicas y Culturales), Condado
Arapahoe.
