New Fort Logan Northgate School Leadership Team Introduced; New

Educational Technology Coordinator, Too

Superintendent Pat Sandos introduced new school and district leadership to the community at

the Sheridan Board of Education meeting this week.

New staff include three new leaders at Fort Logan Northgate School—principal William (Bill)

Blandón and assistant principals Cori Canty Woessner and Margaret Stanley. At the district

level, Alicia Butcher was introduced as the new educational technology coordinator.

Superintendent Sandos said all four speak Spanish.

Blandón has 30 years of experience in education, including the last 12 years as assistant

principal at Wheat Ridge High School. He has also served as principal of Kullerstrand Elementary

School in Wheat Ridge, assistant principal at Oberon Middle School in Arvada, assistant

principal at Newton Middle School in Centennial, and assistant director of bilingual education in

Aurora Public Schools.

“He has an incredible heart for kids,” said Superintendent Sandos of Blandón. “He has a wealth

of experience across the board.”

After a school visit, Blandón told the board, “I walked out of there dreaming about the job … I

am very excited to take this challenge.”

When he was told he had been hired, said Sandos, Blandón immediately requested a key to the

school so he could show his “new home” to his family.

Cori Canty Woessner

Assistant principal Cori Canty Woessner served for the last three years as both interim principal

and assistant principal at East Middle School in Aurora Public Schools. She has also served as

dean of assessment and data at Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy in Denver Public Schools

(DPS) and special projects manager for Colorado Graduation Pathways at the Colorado

Department of Education. She also spent five years as director of counseling for DPS.

“I don’t live far from here and I’ve been part of this general community for 20 years,” Woessner

told the board. “I’m eager to start digging in.”

Margaret Stanley

Assistant principal Margaret Stanley has nine years of experience as an assistant principal with

Jeffco Schools and eight years of teaching with Jeffco and DPS. Last year, she worked as

curriculum instructional leader at Wheat Ridge High School.

Superintendent Sandos, who did not know Stanley was a candidate for the position, said he first

met Stanley when he was principal at Skinner Middle School in Denver. At the time, Stanley was

a paraprofessional but later entered a program that trained paraprofessionals to become

teachers. “She did an incredible job and then Jeffco stole her so we are stealing her back,” said

Sandos. “She is going to do an incredible job.”

Stanley told the board she is “glad and happy” to be working in Sheridan. “I’m eager to get

going,” she said.

“I am so excited for this team and what you can offer the kids at Fort Logan Northgate,” said

Sandos of the new leaders at Fort Logan Northgate School.

Alicia Butcher

New educational technology coordinator Alicia Butcher has served for the last three years as

assistant principal for Jefferson County Open School in Jeffco Schools. Prior to that, she served

as assessment coordinator and assistant principal at Clayton Partnership Elementary and

Academy High School in Mapleton. She has also served as an instructional coach and teacher at

Clayton Partnership and Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts.

Superintendent Sandos said Butcher faces the “yeoman’s task” of integrating educational

technology into the classroom. Butcher will spend the first semester planning with teachers and

developing a needs assessment and then begin implementing the plan in the second semester

of the 2019-2020 school year.

“One of the things that came out over and over in the interview with Alicia is she talked about

kids constantly,” said Sandos. “She has this strong belief in equity and that kids should have

every opportunity they need with technology. That really struck me. Welcome to our family.”

Butcher pledged a “collaborative” process with teachers to understand their needs. “I am really

excited to be here so thanks for having me,” she said.

Consent Agenda

All consent agenda items, including the 2019-2020 school year budget, were approved.
