Superintendent Pat Sandos
Endorses Nomination of Habitat for Humanity’s Sheridan Square for Metro Vision
2020 Award
Habitat for Humanity’s Sheridan
Square new housing development has created a “distinctive center” to the
historic Fort Logan neighborhood and deserves a Metro Vision 2020 Award from
the Denver Regional Council of Governments, Superintendent Pat Sandos wrote in
a recent letter supporting the nomination.
The development, the largest
ever undertaken by Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver, is providing
much-needed housing for families in the area, said Sandos. Sheridan Square
includes 63 duplex and triplex townhomes across two city blocks. The project
was put in motion when the former Fort Logan Elementary School was razed
following the construction of Fort Logan Northgate School.
The Sheridan Square project includes
a new park, thanks to additional support from South Suburban Parks and
Recreation and a grant from Arapahoe County Open Spaces. The park offers the
community an important gathering place, said Superintendent Sandos in his
letter.
Superintendent Sandos noted the
collaboration among all county and city offices, along with Habitat for
Humanity’s support, that made Sheridan Square a reality.
The city of Sheridan is
heading-up the nomination process for the Metro Vision 2020 Award, which
recognizes accomplishments and collaborations which improve the Denver region.
Winners will be announced this spring.
