Sheridan
School District 2 Will Extend Spring Break to Two Weeks Beginning Monday, March
16
Sheridan
School District 2 will extend Spring Break to two weeks beginning Monday, March
16 to slow the potential spread of infection from coronavirus, COVID-19.
The closure
will be from March 16 through March 27. which includes Spring Break (March 23 –
27).
Superintendent
Pat Sandos said the district may extend the closure based on advice from public
health officials. To date, there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus in
Sheridan.
“This was a
difficult decision to make,” said Superintendent Sandos. “We know this places a
hardship on all parents and guardians, but the close is in the best interests
of the personal health of all students, staff, and their families. We need to
work together to slow the progression of this virus. Based on available data,
children seem to be at low risk. However, if we minimize the number of
opportunities for transmission by not gathering together in schools, we will
help protect the community at large, including those who may be more likely to
experience a severe threat to their health.”
Superintendent
Sandos urged parents, students, and community members to stay tuned to updates
from the district’s website, www.ssd2.org, via social media, and via Infinite Campus
messaging. Information will be available about access to meals. A “grab and go”
system will be set up for both breakfast and lunch during the break.
Superintendent
Sandos urged community members to follow public health guidance to minimize
risks:
- Frequently
and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20
seconds. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer with at
least 60% alcohol.
- Cover
coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash, or
use your inner elbow or sleeve.
- Avoid
touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home
if you’re sick. Keep your children home if they are sick.
- Clean
surfaces in your home, and personal items such as cell phones, using
regular household products.
