Survey Seeks Parent
Feedback on Proposed Change to School-Year Calendar
Superintendent Pat Sandos today urged parents to complete an
online survey regarding a proposal to shift the opening of the school year in
Sheridan from early August to mid-August.
“The voice of our parents is critical in making this decision so we are hoping to hear from as many parents as possible,” said Superintendent Sandos. “Please take a few minutes to give us your thoughts on how you view this proposal.”
Parents are encouraged to fill out an online survey (link here).
The survey is available in both English and Spanish. A community meeting in
January is also being planned to present the idea and gather additional
community and parent feedback.
This year, Sheridan started the school year on August 2 while
other school districts started on August 13 (Englewood), August 16 (Jeffco),
August 17 (Littleton) and August 20 (Denver). Sheridan is the only district of
those that includes a five-day fall break and a 10-day spring break in the
school-year calendar.
Superintendent Sandos said that if Sheridan shifts to the middle
of August that the spring break might change to five days and the fall break
might be shortened or disappear.
District staff has suggested the start of the school year holds a
number of possible advantages. One issue is to reduce the number of times that
teachers must re-orient students to the routines of the classroom. Parents and
teachers who work in Sheridan may also find it easier to manage day care issues
and work schedules if Sheridan more closely follows the calendars used by
neighboring districts. Keeping a schedule more in line with neighbors may also
help with retaining and attracting teachers and staff.
Daigler added that the District Advisory and Accountability
Committee and student councils will also asked for their input. In addition,
feedback from the Sheridan Educator Association will be gathered before the
idea is forwarded to the board.

Nueva Encuesta busca la opinión de los padres sobre el cambio propuesto para el calendario del año escolar
El superintendente Pat Sandos instó hoy a los padres a completar una nueva encuesta en
línea para cambiar la apertura del año escolar en Sheridan desde principios de agosto hasta mediados de agosto.
"La voz de nuestros padres es fundamental para tomar esta decisión, por lo que esperamos escuchar a la mayor cantidad posible de padres, “dijo el Superintendente Sandos.” Tómese unos minutos para darnos su opinión sobre cómo ve esta nueva propuesta".
Se alienta a los padres a completar una encuesta en línea (enlace aquí). La encuesta está disponible en inglés y español. También se está planificando una reunión con la comunidad de Sheridan en enero para presentar la idea y recopilar comentarios adicionales de la comunidad y de nuestros padres.

Mantener un horario más acorde con los distritos vecinos también puede ayudar a retener y atraer maestros y personal.
Daigler agregó que el Comité Consultivo y de Responsabilidad del Distrito y los consejos estudiantiles también solicitarán su opinión. Además, los comentarios de la Asociación de Educadores de Sheridan se reuniran antes de que la idea se envíe a la junta.
