Dear Alice Terry Families,
Thank you for your partnership and for allowing our staff dedicated time today for professional learning and planning. Our team spent the day strengthening systems and practices that support safe, consistent, and productive learning environments for every Alice Terry student.
Beginning Tuesday, September 29, we will implement some changes to our arrival, breakfast, lunch, and dismissal routines. Please review the information below so you can help your child be ready for tomorrow.
Morning Arrival & Breakfast
Kindergarten and first-grade students will continue entering through their exterior classroom doors, as they have all year. Beginning Tuesday, September 29, those doors will open at 7:55 a.m.
Students in grades 2–4 who arrive by bus, car, or walking will report to the blacktop and line up as follows:
- 2nd grade: Green circle and line
- 3rd grade: Orange circle and line
- 4th grade: Yellow circle and line
*Students line up and wait for their teachers to pick them up. They are not on the playground equipment.
At the 7:55 a.m. bell, staff will bring students inside. Third grade will enter through the double doors near the playground and blacktop.
Breakfast will be served in classrooms during morning social-emotional learning time. Teachers will take attendance in the classroom. Students should not go to the cafeteria for breakfast. Breakfast service ends at 8:20 a.m.
Being On Time Matters
We want every student at school and ready to learn on time each day, and we need your partnership. Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. will need to enter through the main office, check in, and receive a tardy slip before going to class. Students who need breakfast will still be able to eat in their classroom until breakfast service ends at 8:20 a.m.
Please help us by planning for your child to arrive with enough time to be ready for the first bell at 7:55 a.m.
Inclement Weather
During rain, snow, or temperatures below the district's designated threshold, students will report to the gym rather than the blacktop. Students will sit with their class and grade level, with kindergarten and first-grade students positioned closest to the entrance. Breakfast will continue to be served in classrooms.
Lunch & Recess
We are also adjusting our lunch schedule to better maximize students' lunch, recess, and instructional time. If you visit your child during lunch, you may notice that their lunch time has changed. Please contact the main office for your child's specific lunch time before visiting.
Afternoon Dismissal
Dismissal will stay the same:
- Bus riders will be escorted to their designated bus line.
- Students who walk home or are picked up by car will exit through their classroom’s exterior door.
- Third-grade students will use their designated building exit.
The morning arrival and breakfast changes will help create smoother transitions and clear, predictable routines for students.
