Board of Education Selects Ray and Associates, Inc. to Guide Superintendent Search

The Sheridan Board of Education this week (Friday, Dec. 22) unanimously selected Ray and Associates, Inc., to guide the search for a new superintendent.

The discussion was brief. “In consideration of everything I looked at and reviewed, my choice would be Ray (and Associates),” said board president Bernadette Saleh.

The board interviewed representatives from Ray and Associates and CASB (the Colorado Association of School Boards) at its meeting on Dec. 12. Board member Sally Daigle said she appreciated the time to review each team’s proposal.

Ray and Associates lowered its proposed $16,500 fee to $14,500. “I appreciated their cooperation in negotiating with us,” said Saleh. CASB’s $9,000 proposed fee was lower than Ray and Associate’s, but board members indicated that the true cost of the CASB proposal was higher because it would have required extensive support from district staff.

During the Dec. 12 interviews, Ray and Associates, Inc. national executive director William Newman told the board that his firm has 42 years of experience and is able to tap a “large, diverse” recruiting network around the country. The Iowa-based firm said the search process will require roughly 90 days to complete and it will include a thorough dialogue with the community in order to develop a profile of the ideal candidate.

Superintendent Michael Clough is leaving the position in June, 2017. He has served in the position since 2008.

Perfect Attendance

Superintendent Clough told the board that 27 teachers and staff received Perfect Attendance awards at the end of the first semester. The board and Superintendent Clough identified attendance for staff and students as a top priority for the 2017-2018 school year.

The award came in the form of $50 gift cards to Target. That amount will increase to $100 award for perfect attendance through the entire school year. Employees are eligible who do not take daily leave for illness or personal reasons although they may be absent from class or district duties for district-assigned work.

Computer Cart Donation

SOAR Academy and Fort Logan Northgate School will soon receive a cart loaded with 30 laptop computers for student use, thanks to a donation from Sheila Fortune.

Since 1998, The Boulder-based non-profit Sheila Fortune Foundation has promoted the interests of at-risk youths by providing them the opportunity to experience and participate in educational activities through the arts. However, Superintendent Clough noted that this particular donation is a personal gift from Sheila Fortune, who spent time at both SOAR Academy and Fort Logan Northgate School before announcing the donation.

That total cost of the two carts, with laptops using the Windows 10 operating system, is $19,201. “We are very, very grateful,” said Clough.
